Forum: GratefulDead Subject: 11-17-72 is an Amazing Show!

I dont think this show was mentioned last week, but I like it more than the shows on the 18th and 19th. I'll steal the good doctor's review to save some time. I think I like fall of '72 better than spring...

Subject: don't miss this!
I have had this show on tape for years, and often referred to it as "the greatest little 72 show" in my collection. Little in stature only because, well, it's a bit short by 72 standards. And it can't really top many of the earlier stupendous shows in Sept 72, or even the great 2 night stand at the Fox in St. Louis a month before.
But this show is too easily overlooked, a mistake because it contains some very focused and magical playing that keeps on getting better every time I hear this show.
The first set highlights are the hot China>Rider and the 2 rarities - Bird Song which had just been pulled from retirement since 8/71, and the new song Box of Rain which premiered in Oct 72.
Set Two starts with a HOT version of Cumberland, which is usually a signal that Jerry is at the helm and
ready to blast off. A very nice He's Gone soon follows, with tasty ensemble playing between Jerry, Keith and Phil. But The Other One is really special indeed, it may be my favorite of the fall tour until
12/31/72. Only 20 minutes, but not a note wasted, with plenty of textures and colors to bend your mind and get you kind! The sweet Uncle John's is icing on
the cake. Worth adding to your collection!
enjoy,
Dr. Flashback :-)
